Hot Ferrari... Hot day... Cool shots!

There are those occasions when a particular photo shoot just doesn't schedule in at the right time of day or place. The period of availability for a particular product may be very limited or its location may be subject to time and travel constraints. This is the case in point with our recent shoot for a client and his new Ferrari 599 GTO.

The distance to our studio was a factor, along with the availability of the owner and his exotic automobile being limited to a few hours on the week of the shoot. Rather than delaying the shoot and missing any deadlines, we packed up and traveled to the clients location and photographed the vehicle in a nearby Library parking lot.

At least it was void of parked cars, although we did take a short break to accommodate a city utility truck on its daily trash pickup route. The Ferrari was shot in the heat, humidity and harsh light of a South Florida afternoon.

The somewhat cluttered background was not an issue, as the final shots were going to be silhouetted, but we did need to pay attention to any distracting reflections it presented. With that in mind we came equipped with a roll of studio grey background paper, black and white foam core panels, and silver reflectors to kick extra light into the interior and onto the shadow areas as needed.

With the automobile in position and the camera locked down on a tripod we proceeded to shoot multiple exposures utilizing our panels and reflectors to eliminate reflections and modify the light on specific areas of the vehicle, section by section. The finished shot is a composite of 15 of these exposures, including brightened wheels, brake calipers, trim and logos on the exterior and interior.

Along with the silhouetted 3/4 views that Mark shot, we augmented the shoot with close-ups, detail shots and straight-on front, back and rear views which Jon shot, stretched out on the hot pavement behind the camera at ground level. With a two hour shoot in the hot Florida sun, some of our stock image backgrounds and a few hours of Photoshop work, we delivered a series of dynamic images. To quote our client "You guys did fabulous work ....it is rare these days to see real first class work, you guys delivered!!!"

1998 Smithsonian I.T. Innovation Award

It was 13 years ago today that Woodbury & Associates was nominated by John Warnock, then CEO of Adobe Systems Inc., to become part of the Smithsonian Institution's Permanent Research Collection on Information Technology Innovation.

We were formally inducted when the 1998 I.T. Innovation Collection was presented to the Smithsonian Institution on April 6th, at a presentation on the National Mall with the iconic symbol of the institution, The Castle as the background.

Woodbury & Associates is proud of it's recognition by the Computerworld Smithsonian Program for its "innovative application of technology" and its permanent inclusion in the National Museum of American History's Division of Information Technology and Society. This award was bestowed on Mark Woodbury and his photography and graphic arts team for the transition from film, to an end to end digital photography solution "Do it once, Do it Digital" allowing new product announcement photography, for corporations like the IBM PC Company, to be available simultaneously worldwide, reducing time to market for major international product launches.

This innovation continues to date and has broadened to include not only still product photography but also our highly requested award winning product animations. One such recently completed animation will be getting it's international debut at the upcoming EuroShop 2011, The Global Retail Trade Fair in Dusseldorf, Germany.

Computerworld Smithsonian Award

Epson International Pano Awards Bronze Award

Our Panoramic image of the Opal Theatre, aboard Oasis of the Seas the worlds largest cruise ship, received a Bronze Award in the Epson International Photographic Pano Awards. This 360 degree pano was stitched from 16 wide angle photos taken as part of an assignment for the Finnish corporation that created most of the interior public spaces. Additional images from this shoot, along with photos of the ships arrival in it's home port of Fort Lauderdale can be viewed on our website at wa-digital.com/Oasis of the Seas.

Eye Care Software goes hi-tech

Our recently completed full day shoot for “ifa united i-tech” of Germany, hits the floors of the World Ophthalmology Congress 2010 in Berlin tomorrow. During numerous symposia and courses leading experts in the field of eye care will present the most recent scientific knowledge and the latest research findings.

Among these will be ifa's presentation of their State-of-the-art EMR (Electronic Medical Records) SmartScreen technology for the iPad.

Our photo session for ifa was unique, since all the screens were shot live on the actual iPads only hours after the software was configured. Less than 20 hours after the shoot we delivered 500 full color spec sheets to the client for their product announcement and the following image highlighted the "Top News" page of their international website, as well as the 8800 copies of the ifa newspaper for the Conference in Berlin.

Waterworks' New Showroom in the Miami Design District

Yesterday we photographed the complete interior of the new showroom for the Iconic American Luxury Bath Company, Waterworks. The pace was hectic as we moved from gallery to gallery, as the finishing touches were finalized by designers and team members.

The Miami Design District store hosted its opening in the newly remodeled art deco building only hours after our photgraphs were burned to Waterworks branded memory sticks, which were handed out to the press and guests.

Thanks for visiting, and return soon. We've had some interesting photo shoots over the last few months, and we'd like to share them with you, along with some exciting upcoming projects.

This first photo is of a cool Trike from BRP, that JL Audio has put a KickAss sound system on. This image is 6 different exposures put together in Photoshop ... along with a few other little tricks. A future post will include some shots of the JL Adio speaker application.
